Events, Shows and Opportunities

We like to provide as many exciting opportunities for all sections of our dance family as possible.  Here's a taster of the things you could get involved in.

Annual Production & Festive Display

Our dance shows are like no other!  We're famed for our annual productions that use dance and drama to tell a story.  Fantastic costumes, staging and lighting and an electric atmosphere - they are many of our members' yearly highlight at AMC!

These usually take place the final weekend before Easter each year and comprise of 3 shows over the weekend.  Our 2023 production of The Little Mermaid included 165 dancers from across our School of Dance and Adult Classes.

Just before Christmas, our School of Dance and Tots sections also put on a Festive Display to showcase their latest work as well as watch, enjoy, be inspired by, and support their peers.

Medal and Awards Days

Every year we have an optional medal session for our School of Dance pupils. Pupils get to perform on their own on the stage in front of parents in an encouraging, supportive and relaxed environment. Pupils will then receive a medal/shield/trophy/crystal award & certificate for their achievement along with some comments from a specially invited guest teacher.  Pupils are invited to perform the dance which we have been learning in class for each of the subjects that they are part of. The awards are not scored/marked, you are not in competition - this is a self development performance opportunity where you work up the awards over time.  We also opportunity for our older pupils to choreograph and perform their own pieces.

For the first time dancers perform for a subject, they will receive a bronze medal. Pupils who have already gained their bronze medal in a subject will get a silver medal, those who have a silver medal already will get gold. Once you have earned these, you then move on to your bronze, silver and gold shields, and then bronze, silver and gold trophies, and finally bronze, silver and gold crystal awards. In exceptional and rare circumstances, if a performance is deemed outstanding, the guest teacher may award a 'Recommendation' where the pupil can perform for their next level there and then.

Birmingham Hippodrome and other performances

We love to perform! Throughout the year, we perform at numerous school fetes, village shows and events, carehome visits and other local community performances.  We also provide opportunities to dance at special venues such as Birmingham Hippodrome.  We never audition for any of our performances, always nurturing every dancer within our dance family to shine on stage with us and create lifelong memories.

Tapathon

We're super proud that we have been taking part in the national annual Tapathon with the Performer's Project for over 10 years! This a national challenge that raises money for Children in Need.  Around 75 of our Tap pupils take part each year.

Tapathon is an annual, national, world record attempt to get as many people tap dancing the same dance, to the same song, at the same time at venues up and down the country - whilst raising lots of money for charity.  We learn the routine in classes from September onwards, ready for the event each November time.

Holiday Clubs

Each school holiday we run a few holiday workshop days.  Aimed at aged 5 years to 12 years, these days are themed and include dancing, games, crafts and more.  A brilliant childcare option and fun way to break up the holidays, our holiday clubs are consistently popular with AMC members and non-members alike.

Theatre Trips and Days Out

We're very proud to be 'more than a dance school' to so many people.  A big part of this is the community our members have created with strong friendships.  We often do trips and social events for our members to get involved in.  We regularly arrange group trips to see shows at local theatres such as the Curve (often with discounted rates), as well as various other days outs and events.

Fundraisers

We like to positively support and help our local community as much as possible.  We raise hundreds of pounds for local causes at our annual shows and festive displays, as well as supporting causes such as Children in Need and Red Nose Day.
